City Staff Order Winslow Way Closure

Winslow Way closes to through traffic on Wednesday, July 8, at 8:30 a.m. for hazardous tree removal. The closure affects Winslow Way from west of SR 305 to east of Bjune Drive, with reopening expected after 3:30 p.m..

The closure allows safe removal of a high-risk Black cottonwood tree. A large limb failed unexpectedly on July 6, blocking pedestrian and vehicle access. City staff evaluated the tree, determining removal is needed to prevent future limb failures or the tree from falling. No one was injured in the prior limb failure.

Drivers should detour via High School Road. Pedestrians should use the Charles Schmid Waterfront Trail. Local access will be maintained where possible. Tree removal will be noisy at times.

The City coordinated with emergency responders, Kitsap Transit, Washington State Ferries, WSDOT, and other agency partners to minimize impacts and keep everyone moving safely. A Nixle alert was issued on July 7 at 3:20 p.m. regarding the closure; another will be sent when Winslow Way reopens.
