BISD Board Considers BIESPA Contract, Superintendent Deal

The Bainbridge Island School District board met June 25, 2026, considering the Bainbridge Island Educational Support Professional Association (BIESPA) Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2026-2027. Dane Fenwick, Director of Facilities, Operations, and Capital Projects, presented the agreement, ratified by 78% of BIESPA membership on June 17, 2026. The one-year agreement, effective September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027, includes a 2.6% compensation increase based on the Implicit Price Deflator. Fenwick said, "I request Board approval of the amended Bainbridge Island School District / Bainbridge Island Educational Support Professional Association 2026 - 2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement."

Also considered for approval was the Superintendent Contract for Amii Thompson, covering July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2029. Associate Superintendent Kristen Haizlip presented the first reading of the proposed 2026-2027 Student Fee Schedule, outlining fees for secondary school courses with extensive material use, instrumental music programs, and extracurricular activities. Fee waivers and scholarships will be available to families.

The consent agenda included several approved student travel requests from Bainbridge High School Principal Ruth Medsker: cheer coach Tawnya Jackson and 32 students to the University of Washington in Seattle; volleyball coach Holly Rohrbacher and 14 students to Anaheim, CA; and band teacher Chris Thomas and 50 students to Los Angeles and Disneyland/Anaheim, CA. The board also approved over a dozen donations, including a $15,000.00 gift from The Troy and Baden Biddle Foundation for a post-secondary scholarship at Bainbridge High School.

Other reports included Dane Fenwick's Capital Projects Monthly Report for May 2026, noting WMS Track Resurfacing Project contractors will begin work July 14, 2026, following the Rotary Auction. Apollo Mechanical Solutions Group will stage materials for HVAC upgrades at Woodward Middle School, with installation resuming July 13, 2026, after the Rotary Auction. Also, Public Records Officer Angela Sawyer updated on public records requests, and Superintendent Amii Thompson outlined categories and feedback from her 2025-26 evaluation.

Chief Financial Officer Kim Knight presented the preliminary May 2026 financial report. May revenues totaled $4,157,267.10, with year-to-date revenues at $51,051,430.78. May expenditures were $5,027,553.53, bringing year-to-date totals to $46,672,971.13. The district reported $4,633,115.52 in unencumbered spending capacity.
