Amii Thompson Contract Set for Approval
The Bainbridge Island School District Board reviewed Superintendent Amii Thompson's contract, set for approval from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029. The board also considered the Bainbridge Island Educational Support Professional Association (BIESPA) Collective Bargaining Agreement for the 2026-2027 school year (September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027). BIESPA membership approved the agreement on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, with 78% support. Director of Facilities, Operations, and Capital Projects Dane Fenwick recommended Board approval for the agreement, which includes a 2.6% compensation increase based on the Implicit Price Deflator, updated classification titles, and expanded reimbursements for professionals.
Superintendent Amii Thompson updated the board on her 2025-26 evaluation, stating, "During the Board Meeting scheduled for June 25, I plan to outline the specific evaluation categories, along with the associated feedback and scores". Associate Superintendent Kristen Haizlip presented the first reading of the proposed 2026-2027 Student Fee Schedule, outlining fees for lab-based courses, instrumental music programs, and extracurricular activities in grades 7-12, with fee waivers and scholarships available.
In the Capital Projects Monthly Report, Dane Fenwick reported contracts for the Woodward Middle School Track Resurfacing Project are complete, with Beynon Sports LLC scheduled to begin work July 14, 2026. District-wide LED Retrofit Projects are progressing, with Johnson Electric and D&S Electrical starting work Monday, June 22, 2026. Apollo Mechanical Solutions Group will install new equipment for Woodward Middle School's HVAC upgrades on July 13, 2026, and Nelson Construction Inc. will begin the Waterless Urinal Replacement Project in the BHS 200 Building on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Chief Financial Officer Kim Knight presented the preliminary financial report for May 2026, reporting May revenues totaled $4,157,267.10, and year-to-date revenues reached $51,051,430.78. Expenditures for May totaled $5,027,553.53, with year-to-date expenditures at $46,672,971.13.
